Lower Back Pain: Get Relief At Home

Your back is one of the most important parts of your body. Without a healthy back, you would have poor posture, weak muscles, and poor joints, which could potentially set you up for serious pain and permanent damage in the long run. Strengthening your core is essential for managing back pain, when your core is weak, the muscles in your lower back have less support.

Here are some ways to strengthen your back and keep pain at bay for as long as possible:

Knee to Chest Stretch: Lay on your back with your knees bent. Your feet should be flat on the floor. Using both hands, hold your lower right leg and clasp your wrists just under the knee. While your left foot remains on the floor, gently pull your right knee up to your chest. You should feel a stretch in your lower back. Hold your right knee against your chest for half a minute, then release. It is important to ensure your legs, hips, and lower back are relaxed. Repeat steps with your left leg.

Bridging: Lay on your back and bend your knees. Spread your feet so they are parallel to your shoulders. Lift your abdomen off the floor and back to the floor. Breathing is an important part of every exercise, remember to breathe in and out as you lift. Repeat several times.

Spinal Twist: Lay on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor. Extend your arms outwards on either side of you, with your palms flat on the floor. Gently lower your knees to your right side and then your left side, while turning your head the opposite way. Hold in each position for half a minute.

Child’s Pose: Also known as the Prayer Stretch. To preform a child’s pose, sit on your knees and rest your hips on your heels. Bend forward extending your hands on the floor in front of you. Your abdomen should be resting on your thighs. Typically, this pose is held for at least a minute.

If you are suffering from lower back pain, these exercises and stretches can be great for helping to manage your pain. However, if you are dealing with spinal issue, you are going to need more than this. At home exercises can help immensely with dealing with muscular pain caused by stress and tension. Spinal pain is different and often more serious. Spinal pain is caused a spinal injury, like a herniated disc. At West Texas Neck and Back, we offer spinal decompression to help you heal the condition causing your back pain.

Spinal Decompression Can Help Eliminate Lower Back Pain

Spinal decompression is a non-invasive procedure that relieves the pressure placed on the discs that make up the back. When these discs become damaged and start to bulge, then they’ll increase pressure on tissues and nerves around them. As a result, you end up with back pain that can be debilitating. With spinal decompression, this pressure is released, reducing or eliminating your pain.
